It’s a gorgeous Sunday today. This is the weather I love for kayaking and I just wanted to share a few of my local kayaking spots.
Weedon Island Preserve’s Kayaking Trails when the tide is at its high point and you pack a little lunch to enjoy on a stop to watch the wading birds and sometimes spot a manatee.
Paddling at Fort De Soto Park along with some camping and maybe an afternoon bike ride or roller blade through the park or walk on the beach is a great way to spend a long weekend.
Kayaking Caladesi Island State Park. The kayak from the causeway can be challenging when the boat traffic is high but an afternoon spent walking on the beach after a kayak is been beautiful. Save a little energy for the short paddle back.
Those are the spots close to home. I have some kayak memories of some of the springs in Florida which I’ll share at another time. Places like the Turner river in Everglades City, or the Buttonwood trail in the Everglades are a couple of my favorites. If you really want to see alligators while on your paddle, try the Myakka River. I saw more alligators while kayaking the Myakka River in Sarasota county than on any of my other river travels. What are some of your favorite spots?
